Hi! I am Dr. Sadaf Sahibzada (LMFT #107628), and I am the Clinical Director and a licensed clinician here at Mental Wealth Counseling.
About me:
I am a new mom and an old soul. I have been passionate about the counseling/psychology field since I was very young, and very blessed to love my job. When I am not managing the practice or talking to clients, I am hanging out with my toddler and seeing the world through him and with him. I also love a good hot yoga class. My new year's resolution was to cut back on binge-watching Netflix shows...wish me luck!
My thoughts on how therapy can help:
Not everyone has a safe person or space to share their feelings or thoughts. Not everyone has friends or family to depend on. Even with a large support system, your unique challenges can be hard to understand. Therapy can help in these situations. Therapy is also a beautiful space for self-growth and understanding who you are and how it all happened. At the least, therapy will teach you new ways to deal with the good and the bad, but you get what you give.
Clients I am most effective with:
I love working with young adults and young adult couples. Multicultural individuals, you are welcome here. Those of you who need to understand and improve yourself and your relationships, I got you. I also have a passion for working with egg donors, surrogates, and intended parents while they navigate the world of fertility services.
Therapy style:
I would like to think it is quite comfortable chatting with me. I am direct, but empathetic. I carry casual conversation and it will feel very relaxed. I like giving homework just to keep engagement up between sessions, but it's completely your choice.
What modalities I use:
I love working with attachment theory and find CBT very helpful for getting out of behavioral and thinking "loops." I utilize Polyvagal concepts to help you understand why your body may feel the way it does sometimes. I am also very Solution-Focused, which will help you see changes quickly.
What it feels like working with me:
It will feel comfortable, and my hope is that you will grow to feel completely safe in this space. I don't care to judge, I have heard it all, and nothing you share will scare or surprise me. You will feel my attention completely on you and getting you to where you want to be.
What you could learn in the short term:
Honestly, some feel worse in the beginning. We will want to get everything on the table in order to work through your challenges, and sometimes that hurts. After that cloudy part, you are going to have new levels of understanding and meaning to motivate continued change. You will engage in new behaviors, encourage new ways of thinking, and grow a more detailed understanding of your feelings.
What you could expect in the long run:
In the long run, you will be a different you. The same you, but better.
How will you know if therapy is working:
You will know therapy is working when you start to see changes, get excited about growth, and handle negative situations or emotions in surprisingly new ways. If you give more, you get more... and the possibilities become endless.
No matter what is going on, my ultimate goal for you will be to have your life feeling good again.
